Tony Curtis Disinherited Children

By March 10, 2011

Follow me on:

Classic movie star Tony Curtis, who died last September at the age of 85, wrote all of his five children out of his will, including movie-star daughter Jamie Lee Curtis.

Inside Edition reports that the will uses harsh language to "acknowledge the existence of his children" and leave them purposely out of the inheritance. Yikes.

It appears that Curtis, a handsome rake known for womanizing and stormy relationships through much of his life, apparently left his entire estate to his fifth wife, Jill, who is not the mother of any of his children.

What is surprising is not that a man estranged for most of his life from his adult children would disinherit them; to an estate planning professional that is so commonplace as to not merit comment.

The real story is that he did so publicly, in a will, whereas he could have accomplished the same thing by creating a trust leaving everything to his widow. I’m fairly certain that he simply didn’t know to ask if there was a better way.

Did Tony have much to leave anyone? I do believe his wife dearly loved him and you should leave your stuff to whomever you wish.

Mr. Curtis was a talented man and was gorgeous when he was young. But as a father, he was severely emotionally crippled. I’m sure that Jamie Lee Curtis is fine financially and didn’t need his money. I don’t know about his other children. Obviously, his sixth wife pushed him into leaving everything to her. I know that he and his third wife adopted two sons. One son is deceased (died of a drug overdose). I don’t know what happened to the other son. I am sure that this came as no surprise to his 4 daughters. I’m sure that they were not expecting anything from him since that is what they had received throughout their lives.

I guess his children will have to work and earn their keep. His wife is much younger, and she was his true love. End of that story!
