Tippi vs. Naomi: Hedren Opposes Remake of The Birds

Tippi Hedren, star of Alfred Hitchock's disturbing avian attack movie, says she's against the planned remake of The Birds.

Another lovely blonde, Naomi Watts, is slated for the project, and there have been rumors that Martin Campbell, late of Casino Royale remake fame, will direct.

Remaking a Bond film is one thing. Remaking a Hitchcock classic is quite another. You've got to have big brass clanking ones to even attempt it.

Where Hitchcock had to deal with real and animatronic birds, the new director will have the benefit of modern movie magic and special effects - but as we've seen too many times, that doesn't always improve a film. And of course, there was the disastrous, shot-by-shot remake of Psycho not that long ago.

It's not that I don't wish them well. I really do, but I have my doubts. And, at the end of the day, I welcome any enterprise that will focus attention back on Hitchcock, The Birds, and his body of work.
