The YouTube genius who gave us this ethereally lovely montage of morphing actresses throughout the history of cinema has now done the same for men in an equally facsinating, beautiful, and, again, slightly creepy montage of great actors.
As always, it's amazing how little information the human mind requires to identifiy a familiar face, especially these ultra-famous men. (I think I find morphing a little creepy because of the distortion required, even when done as deftly as it is here.)
Looking at the two montages in sequence reminds me how much higher the standards of beauty are for women than men. Okay, I know Tom Cruise is just plain pretty, as are many of the men in the video. But not all of them have to be flawless, as Hollywood demands of women. The men can have mottled skin (Richard Burton) and scars (Gene Kelly), and less than symmetrical features (Gene Hackman) or weathered like leather (Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford) and still be extremely desirable icons of virility whose careers last far longer than women's do.
Life isn't fair, Buttercup. But it sure is beautiful.
