As the holiday approaches, more great classic movies are becoming available on the popular Blu-ray format. And November offers quite a number selections to choose from for the classic movie fan on your shopping list.
This month marks the first time Billy Wilder's classic noir, Sunset Boulevard (1950), is released on the format. Ditto for the great World War II action thriller, Von Ryan's Express (1965), starring Frank Sinatra as an army colonel who leads a high-speed prisoner escape aboard a moving train.
Another Sinatra classic, Guys and Dolls (1955), which also happens to be Marlon Brando's one and only musical, makes its bow on Blu-ray, while a remastered version of Patton (1970) starring Oscar winner George C. Scott joins a list of previous releases of the great biopic.
Marking its 50th anniversary, David Lean's great epic, Lawrence of Arabia (1962), finally makes the transfer to the format, and later in the month Warner Bros. will simultaneously release The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), with John Garfield and Lana Turner, as well as their steamy 1981 remake starring Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange.
