More Marilyn Memorabilia on the Block
I've never understood the market for collectibles, but fans of Marilyn Monroe and Ann Miller will have a heyday later this month when Julien's auctions off memorabilia from the two actresses at a "summer sale" auction June 26-27 in Vegas.
There are photos, autographs and movie costumes, which I kind of get. There's also some stuff with a high creepy factor, like the robe Marilyn "purportedly" wore on the last day of her life, and prescription bottles once used to keep Elvis high. (Finally, I get the "Dr. Nick" reference from The Simpsons.)
The site has this cool virtual catalog you can flip through. What struck me as art worth having in the sale are the elegant costume sketches by Edith Head for Carole Lombard, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and other screen legends. They're glorious.
