UPDATE: Still No African Queen
UPDATE: ClassicFlix.com just sent word that its source was wrong, and The African Queen IS NOT on the production schedule for October.
This, of course, bites. Let's hope they bring it out sometime while we're still breathing, folks.
Classicflix.com reports that at long last, Paramount will release a DVD of one the great adventure-romance movies of all time: The African Queen, coming in October.
The only movie to pair Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, it's been one of the most-requested films not yet out on DVD. It's legendary for its off-screen adventure as well. Director John Huston schlepped Bogie, wife Lauren Bacall and Hepburn to the wilds of Africa, where Huston and Bogart were the only members of the crew who didn't come down with some dreadful intestinal illness - allegedly because they refused to drink water and went for bourbon instead. Not a bad strategy.
The release will be part of Paramount's "Centennial Collection" releases of classic movies, all two-discs sets with plenty of extras. We'll see what they come up with.
