Kate Beats Bette's Youthful Record
Until the Oscar nominations were announced, Bette Davis had long held the record as the youngest person ever to rack up six Oscar nominations.
Not anymore.
The exophthalmic Davis received her sixth nomination in 1942 for Now Voyager at the age of 34. She lost, to Greer Garson in Mrs. Miniver, but she already had her two career Oscars under her belt.
Now, Kate Winslet's nomination for The Reader at the tender age of 33 edges Davis out. It also positions Winslet to tie the unfortunate record of the lovely Deborah Kerr, who was nominated six times, but never won.
(What is it about the Oscars that brings out the nerdy trivia fiend in me?)
