The Lodger Gets an Americanized Remake

Wednesday November 19, 2008
Speaking of Hitchcock, and speaking of remakes, as we often do, the trailer for the new version of The Lodger is out, and looks pretty darn creepy.

The original 1927 silent film is renowned as Hitchcock's first thriller, and while it's quite dated now, it can still give viewers a few thrills and chills.

Both are loosely based on the "Jack the Ripper" premise, although the modern movie is transported from London to Los Angeles, and the innocent landlady is not so innocent, as it turns out. She's played in the new version by Hope Davis, who I find a most intriguing actress, and I love the choice of Alfred Molina as the crabby cop.

I'm usualy fairly dubious about remakes, but I'm actually looking forward to this one. We'll see.
