Ray Bradbury Chronicles the Classics on TCM

Monday November 10, 2008

Turner Classic Movies has rounded up another one of my heroes to act as guest programmer for November - novelist and sci-fi legend Ray Bradbury.

Bradbury's ideas were as wild and wonderful as all the best science fiction thinking, yet his prose was always lyrical, heartbreaking and deeply literary. (At least, that's what I thought when I was a book-hungry kid, plowing through the stacks at the Maude Shunk Public Library. I read every word, from Fahrenheit 451 to The Martian Chronicles, and then I read them all again.)

Look for him Thursday, November 20th, along with his impeccable choices: The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, Rebecca, and Citizen Kane. Elegaic master works of the doomed, the damned, and the self-destructive. Excellent.
