One of the President's Men on TCM
It's a great movie, and a timely reminder that voters can and should demand complete integrity from the men and women they send to the White House.
Turner Classic Movies is presenting All the President's Men on November 2, two days before the election, with a great idea for an interview. Host Robert Osborne will interview John Dean, one of the actual Washington offcials at the White House when the Watergate scandal, which led to the resignation of President Nixon, unfolded.
All the President's Men is one of the great movies about journalism and politics. It's not a documentary, but it's definitely based on the real thing and told from the perspective of reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. It'll be fun to hear what an insider thinks.
Dean, Nixon's White House counsel, has written several books about the tendency of power to corrupt. He discusses his own 1,000 days in the Nixon White House in Blind Ambition and Lost Honor; his most recent book is Worse than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush.
