Lauren Bacall Unloads on Tom Cruise

Monday October 13, 2008
The great thing about being a woman of a certain age and a Hollywood legend just might be the ability to speak your mind, and not give a rosy red flip about what people think.

The lovely Lauren Bacall. at 85, is famous for her straight talk - and she's just unleashed on Tom Cruise, calling the actor a "maniac," delighting the blogosphere and the British press.

After the Oprah couch-jumping, the bizarre interview with Matt Lauer and that oh-so-creepy scientology video, she may not be the only one who thinks so, but she's one of the few in the box-office driven business willing to say so out loud, on the record, in an interview. She was talking to Elle magazine for a profile of Cruise's former wife, Nicole Kidman.

Once you've starred in The Big Sleep, married Humphrey Bogart and served as a founding member of the Rat Pack, I guess you can pretty much say what you want.

This is pretty much straight evidence that the media likes to twist things to create conflict.

Lauren Bacall said that when? I think you dropped out the time factor on that comment by about 10 years or more. So, basically you wrote a smear piece with no intention to be truthful.

Hey, Pat. Not sure what you mean here. She made the comment in the most recent issue of Elle magazine – this year, not ten years ago.
Google it.

Also not sure who you think is being smeared. I admire Bacall’s outspokeness, and Cruise’s behavior has been seen on video by millions of people who are NOT part of the media.

Thanks!
