TiVo Alert - Summer Stars on TCM
Turner Classic Movies is revving up its August "Summer Under the Stars" special again - running a marathon of one star's movies each night during the month.
It's a pretty eclectic line-up, as always. There's are tributes to Charlton Heston and Richard Widmark, who both shuffled off this mortal coil not long ago. There's a whole night of Claude Rains on August 5th, although I question the omission of The Invisible Man. I just can't see it. (Nyuk, nyuk.)
For hoofers, you've got Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. For a femme fatale, you've got Barbara Stanwyck (although again, where is Double Indemnity?) and among the leading ladies, Anne Bancroft, Ingrid Bergman and Janet Leigh.
And although I think this would strain even the most devoted fan, there's almost 24 straight hours of Laurel and Hardy.
It all starts August 1, with one of my favorites, the still-working, always-wonderful Michael Caine. Enjoy!
