Bryant Park Classic Movies Festival
Ah, New York in summer. That means free classic movies in classic Bryant Park, one of the great summer traditions.
This year, a great lineup as always, especially Billy Wilder's The Apartment, a bittersweet romance about losing your moral compass in the drive to get ahead and its spectacular performances from Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.
They've got two old chestnuts from Broadway plays, essentially just filmed as they were staged, The Man Who Came to Dinner and Arsenic and Old Lace. And the very best of the old-school monster movies, James Whale's weird, funny, surreal Bride of Frankenstein. When you're tired of Elsa's electric updo, you're just tired of life.
The festival starts Mondays on June 16th. What a great way to take the edge off a blue Monday, with classic black and white.
