Shrinking Man May be Remade, Sort Of

Tuesday April 22, 2008

The Hollywood blogs and rags report that director Brett Ratner is in talks to remake The Incredible Shrinking Man, playing it for laughs with Eddie Murphy in the leading role as a Vegas magician under a curse that will shrink him to nothing unless he can reverse the spell.

Sounds like a far cry from the 1957 original, an old-fashioned, Cold War nuclear scare flick in which everyman Grant Williams passes through some sort of radioactive glitter before starting to shrink - not the best classic movie of its genre by a long shot.

So, despite the fact that Eddie Murphy has made more box office misses than hits, he can be a very funny man. This could actually be a better movie than the original -- not something you'll hear from me very often!

Better than the original!?! Not bloody likely! Have you seen the original Laurie? It’s very good, with a stirring ending that… but I’ll print no spoilers here. But really, Eddie Murphy? Maybe if he’s in drag and wearing a fat suit… maybe.

hi laurie.i thought grant williams was great as a shrinking man and made it feel like he was this tiny man trying to survive.i did laugh at some parts of the movie.like the rags grant wore looking like a skirt lol fitting for the role.and the little man getting his manhood back near the end while imprisoned in a feminin waistland.but i agree with you so much on other movies .you know your movie s girl lol.i guess all in all grant at 3 inches tall running around his new prison was kinda fun to watch with his wifes tools as weapons.but i tend to agree with you as far as murphy making this funny.it could work.i guess i agree and disagree .thank you laurie .a fan of yours kate
