NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Sunday March 30, 2008

Okay, so this is just a rumor, and Madonna's spokespeople refused to comment, and it's based on unnamed sources in a British newspaper...but Madonna wants to remake Casablanca.

And change the locale to Iraq. And play Ilsa Lund. At 49.

This may actually be a worse idea than the planned Bollywood version.

Actually, true or not, The Daily Mail has some hilarious ideas for script changes:

"Of all the Kabbalah meetings in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

"Here's looking at you, kid. Now who do we have to pay to adopt him?"

"I stick my neck out for nobody - just in case they see the wrinkles."

"If you watch this remake, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life. "

I'll be keeping an eye on this one...

(1) Derek says:

Let her make it. The old saying is that it is better to keep your mouth shut and allow people to think you are an idiot than to open your mouth and prove it.

In this case, it is better to allow people to think you are talentless than to destroy an excellent movie and prove it. But, perversely, if she makes it, it might mean that - at long last - she will disappear off the radar forever.

But this does raise a good couple of questions:

1) Why do people think that they can improve upon that which has stood the test of time?

2) How many remakes (in recent years) have actually been as good as, let alone better than, the original?

3) Who is Madonna really? Who does Madonna think she is? Does anyone think anything about Madonna today?

These are questions that need answering.
