Laurie's Classic Movies BlogHowlin' Good Makeup for the Wolfman
Looks like makeup genius Rick Baker has done it again. Here's his design for Benicio Del Toro as the title character in The Wolfman. A great, old-school look. I like it. I generally look on remakes of the classics with a jaundiced eye, but new versions of old horror movies are often the exception. The best pay homage to the original characters and legends, but create new, wonderful films with the techniques available today - Coppola's 1992 Dracula comes to mind. And Del Toro is wonderful casting, along with Sir Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving and Emily Blunt. Great cast, great look. Let's hope filmmaker Joe Johnston remembers that story and human emotion are just as important as the "wow" factor of special effects and fantastic makeup.
