Classic Sci-Fi in Russian Fairy-Tale Style

Thursday February 21, 2008

I love the good people of Boing-Boing. The "directory of wonderful things" led me to a page of scenes from classic sci-films rendered as Russian folk art in the fab old wood-cut style that suggest those grim Russian fairy tales. Neat-o.

Check out this inspired take on the 1953 invasion classic, The War of the Worlds.

I don't recognize all the scenes, and there's probably quite a few based on Russian movies I don't know, but there's definitely some of The Matrix in there, and I think at least one Ewok from the Star Wars trilogy. I just wish I could read Russian and those cool Cyrillic characters.
