Farewell to Deborah Kerr, Great Lady of the Screen
She was the woman Cary Grant couldn't forget in An Affair to Remember. A puzzlement to Yul Byrnner in The King and I. And she shared one of the toastiest screen kisses of all time with Burt Lancaster as the waves crashed over them in From Here to Eternity.
Deborah Kerr, the Scottish-born actress who became one of Hollywood's most reliable leading ladies, has passed away at age 86 in Suffolk, England.
Her delicate features and porcelain complexion led to early roles as genteel and chaste ladies, but her portrayal of a military wife engaged in a torrid affair in From Here to Eternity broke that mold. She demonstrated enormous range and versatility throughout her career.
Nominated for the Academy Award six different times, she never won. But in 1994, Oscar made up for the oversight with a special award for her body of work. (By the way, she pronounced her name "car," like an auto, not "cur," like a dog.)

Deborah Kerr was one of the classiest film actresses ever. She was to film actresses what John Warner is to the Senate, a dignified stately presence whom you cannot help but respect. She will be missed but at least she remains alive in her wonderful performances of the films that will hopefully be preserved forever.

I’d like to say goodbye to a lovely lady Mz. Deborah Kerr. I am sorry she had to give up her career so early. I did miss her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. We are blessed her body of work will live on and others will see her in the future. If you have never seen THE JOURNEY it is another poinant film she did with Yul Brynner. It is in black and white. My regrets to her family. Many people who never new Mz. Kerr will miss her too. She was one of the greats, personaly and professionaly. A CLASS ACT !!!!!!!!!
