Party Like an Egyptian - Horror and Sci-Fi in LA
All through August, the fabulous Egyptian theater in Los Angeles is running a most excellent festival of horror, fantasy and sci-fi - including a tribute to the dear, departed Kurt Vonnegut. The festival will feature the film version of his brilliant Slaughterhouse Five and the rarely seen (probably for good reason) Happy Birthday, Wanda June.
It's a long-running affair, from August 2-25, with some of the films running at the Egyptian's sister, the Aero Theater. They've got cheesy Japanese horror (I love Ultraman), icky puppet horror, great old 1950's paranoia sci-fi, and plenty of classic vampire and monster action -- inlcuding an evening of horror and sci-fi shorts.
Nothing like seeing these old movies the way they were meant to be seen, on the big screen in an old movie palace. Sweet.
