See da Movies by da Lake in Chicawgo

Thursday July 12, 2007
The Windy City starts its outdoor movie series July 17th, and they've got a great line-up. I'd see almost all of these old films again and again -- and what fun to see them outside in a terrific city like Chicago.

They kick off with the hilarious Young Frankenstein. Marlene Dietrich wasn't bad, but I always wanted to be Madeleine Kahn. Funny and beautiful. We lost a great comic actress when we lost Madeleine Kahn.

Then they've got Double Indemnity, a film noir not to be missed, with Fred MacMurray playing against type as a seedy insurance agent. Not to mention Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, with Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Yum. Yum.

Kudos to the City of Big Shoulders. Tasty picks for summer viewing.
