Classically Bad - the Film Crew

From Laurie Boeder, About.com GuideJuly 11, 2007

Follow me on:

I was a huge fan of the old cult TV series, "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (MST3k to believers). It's hard to explain if you haven't seen it -- it was about a guy trapped on a space station who's forced to watch really bad old movies with the little robots he created to keep him company. (I'm not making this up.)

The three of them would sit there making fun of the movie, cracking wise, and they would deliver about 700-900 jokes per movie. It was so funny it made me snort various beverages out of my nose.

Anyway, some of the MST3k alumnae have banded together in an outfit called "The Film Crew" to put out something similar in a new, direct-to-DVD campaign. The first one has hit the stores, with the robots replaced by slacker office workers. It's 1968's Hollywood After Dark, and it stars Rue McClanahan (yes, the Golden Girl), as a stripper. You have to see this.

Meanwhile, netflix a couple of the old MST3k episodes anytime you want to put your brain on pause and dis some stupendously bad movies. (And a big shout out to Misties everywhere.)
