TiVo Alert - "Summer Under the Stars" on TCM

If you are a sensible person who hates to go out during the dog days of summer, and who prefers to stay inside with the air conditoning, your TV, an adult beverage and a classic movie or two, Turner Classic Movies has you covered.

For the 5th year in a row, they've devoting the whole month of August to one star per day, kicking off with the violet-eyed Elizabeth Taylor and National Velvet on August 1st. They'll be celebrating the birthdays of Robert Mitchum on the 6th and Peter O'Toole on the 2nd -- the latter with the newly restored version of Becket among the features.

They'll mark the anversary of Elvis Presley's death August 16th, and do a backwards retrospective of Buster Keaton on the 30th, starting with his most recent films and going back in time. Great stuff early in the schedule includes Jimmy Stewart on August 5th, including The Shop Around the Corner and Harvey, and Joan Crawford on August 3rd with the fabulous Mildred Pierce at midday and that fabulous bit of badness Trog in the middle of the night.
