Live Like a Legend

Wednesday September 8, 2010

Want to rent the lovely New York address where Katharine Hepburn lived for 60 years?  It'll cost you a mere $27,500 a month.  Peanuts, people!  That's down from nearly $40k a few years ago.

In a midtown Manhattan row known as Turtle Bay Gardens, the house is lovely and utterly tasteful, like the actress herself.  Alas, none of her furnishings remain, but the mirrored dressing room recalls the Hollywood glamor.

Interested?   NY Curbed has the floor plans and photos.

Sir Sean is 80? Noooo!!!!!!!

Tuesday September 7, 2010
In case you hadn't stumbled across anything to make you feel old today, this will do it.

Sean Connery is 80.  Sheesh.  You leave town for a couple of days in August, come back and find out James frickin' Bond is 80.  Eight-0.

He's still pretty sexy, but I mean, come on.  How can the suave spy of Thunderball be 80?  The Man Who Would be King?  The Russian captain of the Red October? King Agamemnon from Time Bandits?

Well, he spent more than 40 years as a leading man, which is a longer run than most actors can expect, and I think he actually got more attractive in his later roles.  The Independent in the U.K. has a list of 80 trivia bits to celebrate his August 25 birthday.

Use the Blu Light Saber, Luke

Tuesday August 31, 2010

All six of the Star Wars movies will get the Blu-ray treatment in a collection coming out in fall 2010 -- more than a year away.

I'm sure it will be chock-full of interesting features, deleted bits and behind-the-scenes gewgaws, but I'm a purist.  I love the three earliest movies.   The effects are amazing, even after all this time, and they just have more heart than the big-budget wow of the more rceently released films.  They left me cold.

Maybe I'll just wait to buy them one at a time.  You?

What a Real Movie Star Should Drive

Saturday August 28, 2010

This turquoise dream machine, ladies and gentlemen, was given to starlet Diana Dors, England's curvaceous answer to Marilyn Monroe.  When she 17.  Before she had a driver's license.

I have seen cars that are elegant, cars that bespeak speed, cars that betoken glamor. This is the first car I've seen that I would say was actually sexy.  Poetry from every angle.  I have never cared about cars in the least, but I think I actually covet this one.

Not that I'll be putting it in the garage next to my high-performance 1984 Geo Prizm anytime soon.  One of only 51 ever made, the 1949 Delahaye roadster recently sold at auction for about $3 million.
